The Greek Oath

It took me some time to adjust back to my old surroundings, same old office, same city, same pollution levels, same electricity cuts..

The first few days had been real tough...wherever i went, be it the malls, the cafeteria, Sec-15 roads, Galaxy mini mall, juice corner..the old memories flashed back everywhere..

I could see people lacking a certain degree of sophisticacy and analytical reasoning,
something that i too terribly missed an year back...i used to be driven more by emotions than intelligence..

But the exuberant joy of being back to the old soil is also at its peak..most importantly, I dont have to cook ....also its easier to spend in INR than Euros..)

Taxis, rickshaws are easily available...though i must confess that after seeing the rash way people drive here, it will take a lot out to me to re-establish my driving skills..

Chemists, doctors can be easily consulted even after normal working hours and also lots of channels to surf on the television...

I could see some new channels coming up in the last one year..one channel had a strange name " Lok Sabha"..

I was somehow attracted to a Bengali movie being telecasted on that channel. As i switched in-between, i missed the name of the movie, but could somehow make out the plot..

It was about an ill-fated girl, who lost her mother at a very young age.Her father was always absconding and unwilling to take house-hold responsibilites.

She was married at the age of 19 and within a year, her husband died.

The society cursed her and sent her back to her father's house, where she looked after her teen brother and ailing father...Nobody in the village was willing to help them, rather a lot many opportunists tried to exploit her miserable state.

One day, a city doctor who happened to pass by that village, felt pity on her merciful state, and tried his level best to cure her father.

Though eventually he could not save her father, but as a monetary support he offered her the job of a nurse in his clinic.

When enquired by his friends the reason for showering excessive generosity on a poor stranger, he admitted that it was all because of that Greek oath he had taken during his graduation....!

I was really curious to search that Greek oath on the net:

I SWEAR by Apollo the physician, and Aesculapius, and Health, and All-heal, and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation to reckon him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine, but to none others.

I was equally excited to see if there exist any oaths for the other professions.

Oath for Lawyers:

Oath for Policemen:

Oath for Civil Servants:

The movie served as an eye-opener for me, i just realized that i too owe a lot to my engineering profession and even under the worst of circumstances, i should not give up.

Einstein at his Best!

I am back to my motherland India!!

Almost every act of mine reminds me of my wonderful times in Germany, be it the need to switch on a cooling agent while bearing the intense heat here, to finding no need to wait for the green signal on road crossings..)

The last one year has added one more entry in Germany born renowned physicst Albert Einstein's fan list!!

Well that fan is me..

There are some quotes by him for the benefit of the common man!!

1. Our defense is not in our armaments, nor in science, nor in going underground. Our defense is in law and order.

2. As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality.

3. A happy man is too satisfied with the present to dwell too much on the future.

4. I am by heritage a Jew, by citizenship a Swiss, and by makeup a human being, and only a human being, without any special attachment to any state or national entity whatsoever.

5. I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.

6. I am not only a pacifist but a militant pacifist. I am willing to fight for peace. Nothing will end war unless the people themselves refuse to go to war.

7. Falling in love is not at all the most stupid thing that people do — but gravitation cannot be held responsible for it.

8. Do not worry about your difficulties in Mathematics. I can assure you mine are still greater.

9. It is a scale of proportions which makes the bad difficult and the good easy.

10. I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.

I Fear Not...

They say time to tie a knot,

I say let me first fear not.

They proclaim love develops over a time,

I reclaim my mind may rule my heart over a lifetime.

They believe understanding leads to love,

I believe love may be moldable like a dove.

They want i keep spreading my winsome smile,

I want my dear ones’ ocean of love for me last many a mile.

They wish always for me the best of the best,

I wish i give my everything to my life’s most treasured guest!

They hope let’s keep doing good to have the God’s great bliss,

I hope happiness of my Mr. Unknown, my prayers will never miss !

The Sun's Ray

My mind so small, though my eyes wide lay,

I cuddle you mother, every time you touch and pray.

Though darkened by your womb, I can feel the Sun’s ray,

Beautifully endowed with your love, heartily inside I play.

You give me the magic fodder, every moment I sway,

Loaded all sides by my weight, I stretch you every day.

By the mercy of God, i will bring end to one fear,

But in a week, the calf gonna appear with another tear.

Unaware of the mysteries that ahead lay,

Wonder if ever I will be able to repay?

For the human atrocities never go away,

Howsoever good you do to them every day ..(

Heathrow T5

All good things must come to an end..a happy end...otherwise they say it is not the end..!

All my farewell parties in Germany remind me of the heart-rending associations the last year brought to me..

Everything happens for a reason,

in an amazing season,

To end a sub-conscious confusion,

leading to a soothing precision.

I opted for London to enjoy my last vacation in Europe for this year..

Chocolates, good food, IPL, movies, thoughtful reading material, music, chit chat with cousin's toddlers is keeping me occupied these days..

My mind is currently sprinkled with layers of caramel, nuts, fruits, fudge....oops...i was talking of my books i 'm reading these days...)

.
...
In a few days time, i'll be back to the same old pressures:

Project deadlines, office environment, all kinds of pollution, social get-togethers, electricity cuts, safety on roads, temperatures crossing 40'c, trying hard to remember routes while driving, filing tax returns, on-time submission of mobile, water, electricity bills...and probably much more...

But even then i'm excited to be back to my India, the place i belong to...For the love of my motherland, my family, my friends gives me an identity..something that i really look for!

I had promised my blogging friend, dear Jungle Mom to capture some golden moments defining my India!

Here are some videos available on net, that i would love to share:

1. The caller tunes by mobile service providers:

2. World's one of the tallest statues, currently under construction in Bihar:

6. Indians welcome guests like their God:

Ever since Heathrow's terminal 5 was inaugurated by the Queen on 27th March, i had been all time excited to know more about it.
.

I recently travelled to London by British Airways and realized that it takes much more than a welcoming host at the check-in counter to have a feel of the comfortable journey ahead.
.
HSBC has taken most of the advertising space, BA has exclusive rights for this terminal, the connectivity to the city for accessing metros is currently via the other terminal T3, but T5 is conveniently connected to the other terminals.
.
The duty free counters are available for both the departing and arriving passengers.
The immigration check maintains sufficient counters to avoid long queues.
The baggage re-claim facility is also brilliantly implemented.
.
I guess in my flight i was the only Indian flying from Duesseldorf to London, and the crew was quite rude. But inside the terminal, i dint come across any unfriendly gesture.
.
.
Till date, this is the best airport i've ever visited.

Merry May!
