First Day of Navratre

First day of Navratri is known as Pratipada NavratriDurga Puja. Navratri begins with Ghatasthapana orKalasha Sthapana. Maha Padyami Navratri puja date in 2010 is October 8th, Friday. The Goddess to worship during the first day of Navratri varies from region to region. Navadurga Goddesses, Dasamahavidya Shaktis, and Saptamatrika and Ashtamatrika Goddesses are worshipped in Navratri Puja. As a part of Navadurga Puja, GoddessShailputri Puja is observed on the first day. Maha Kali puja is celebrated as part of Dasamahavidya puja and in Saptamtrika worship, Brahmi puja is observed.
Sri Swarna khachitha Durga or Swarnakavachalunkrutha Durga is worshipped in Vijayawada Kanakadurga Temple.
In North Indian states like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, Dasamahavidya and Navadurga are worshipped. In some South Indian temples, Navadurga Goddesses and Saptamatrukas or Ashtamatrukas are worshipped. For the first day of Navratri 2010, Green colored dresses or sarees are worn in Maharashtra and Gujarat.
